Bulk Storage Terminals Limited
Who are BST
Bulk Storage Terminals (BST) is a bulk liquid warehousing and logistics operation that has been in business with its tank farm on Totara Street for over 40 years.Today, it also operates from terminals in three other North Island ports – Auckland, New Plymouth andWellington.BST handles and stores a range of liquids from highly corrosive acids through to premium refined vegetable oils at a value of $200 M per annum. The New Zealandoperation consists of a wholly owned subsidiary and a partnership business in Auckland.BST is owned by ANZ Terminals and has a sister company in Australia – Terminals Pty Limited.
What We Do
Bulk liquids into and out of New Zealand.A tanker ship draws into the harbour and ties up to the “bulk liquid” berth.BST staff are there to connect the 6” pipework to the ship and plan the unloading with the ship’s crew.Back at the terminal the pipework and tanks are waiting to receive the three million litre parcel of vegetable oil. 18 hours later that job is complete. The BST team then changes the pipework so that a “parcel” of tallow can be exported from the terminal into another of the ship’s tanks. Sound planning, current procedures and safety-oriented teamwork underlie the precision of the operation. The ship has left and the tanker trucks continue their cycle from the BST terminal to the customers. In their tanks the vegetable oil moves out into the varied processing plants inland.A heartbeat of New Zealand’s industry.
Our customers are highly valued and BST are continually generating new ways of ensuring their satisfaction. Some customers have been relying on BST for 40 years! In order to efficiently store and despatch the customer’s product, BST have very robust back up information systems. These systems are dynamic and learning’s are quickly captured into our procedures manuals. This is the expertise that BST provides.
Our Quality Management System is Certified to the AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 standard by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). We also hold Tertiary accreditation for ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices. BST provides safe and professional services to your business.
“Marpol”, the international treaty to prevent pollution in the world’s seas, has directed the world shipping companies to de-commission their old tanker ships. The new ships replacing them are safer – being twin-skinned – and larger. The result is that they come to New Zealand with fewer and larger shipments of liquid products. This means larger storage is required in New Zealand in order to accommodate them.Alternatively many smaller parcels of oil will arrive in new “Bag in Box” packaging, rather than as bulk in ships. These units utilise a space-age technology “bag” in a standard 20 ft container. This packaging contains approximately 20 tonnes of product per TEU.
BST is working intimately with our customers to create innovative ways to handle these challenges.
This business, with 40 years of growth and strong financial performance is embracing these opportunities with confidence and surety.
